11.10.09

We had a couple of new faces at Mozaik on the 11th - Anna with her crochet hook, and Ursula's friend who was making lace (whose name I am sure I would not be able to spell correctly even if I did recall it). Yay! It's great to see new people. Also around the table were Margo, Helen, Catherynne, Edwina, Kristie, Stella, Ursula, and me (Sarah). A table full. :-)

Catherynne's crochet squares (the grey is her handspun yarn) are looking great!

Helen's self-striping socks (3ply!) were approaching completion - she's working on both socks at the same time.

Knit Rangers 11.10.09
Anna was crochet with two strands, and a giant crochet hook!

Knit Rangers 11.10.09
Ursula and her friend were both making lace - Ursula with her tatting shuttle!

Stella's striped section for her cardigan (a Knitty pattern).

Margo was knitting a top for herself.

Edwina's halter-top is coming along nicely.

My sock (the second in the pair) grew a little - I hope to finish it this weekend.

Kristie was working on her navy cardigan - no photo, sorry, but it was looking good. :-)

If we didn't see you this time, I hope you had a lovely weekend, and look forward to catching up with you soon. See you on Ravelry!

16.08.09

We're back to our regularly scheduled Sunday's now, at our new venue. We had 10 knitters around the table on this very rainy Sunday - not a bad effort, people!

I neglected to bring my camera this weekend, so I shall apologise now for the quality of the photography - the quality of the knitting, of course, was as high as ever!

Busy Hands, Furious Sticks & Smokin' Hook-ers

Hi folks, Jaz here, somehow finding myself volunteering for a guest-posting. Don't expect works of arts, words of wisdom or brillant memory skills. Just some photos of some hard-working Knit Rangers who met up on Sunday at Mozaik in New Lynn.

Stella: the "other" sock of the "first" sock, but seems to be an "ever-decreasing" sock. The "other" sock that is. Not the first sock. That's done. Sorry Stella for the poor shot but you were too fast at oggling KnitScene mags!

Micheleine: the stash-busting, bespoke bubba hat nearly finished on the day! A side project while her cushion waits to be sewn up!!

Me (Jaz): starting up the back of a raglan sweater for one of the numerous bubbas due in Sept. What is with New Years Eve people! Can't you spread it out or something??

Sarah: making a start on a tea mitten pattern for a swap. Yip, that's right folks - stop using that silly word cozie - "mitten" is the new black.

Edwina: the Irish Guilt scarf. Dear Edwina's Dad - she loves you, really does, but was just a wee bit busy when you were meant to get a pressie. But don't fret, she's onto it now and even knitted her own design for you! awwww

Karen: Andrea's sister travelled from Aus I think and was knitting the Frostberries, I think she said she was an alpaca-beginner - go hard!

Andrea: FrostBerries No. 2 in the family in some fat alpaca (close your eyes and pretend I just put a ravelry link in for the pattern and one for Andrea's blog too because I couldn't find them. Squeeze them tight.)

Leith: the might-be-rug, might-be-cushion - let's see how long the yarn lasts. Check out her sleeve, it's attached to a whole cardi, a whole crocheted cardi. What a beaut.

Catherynne: you know how it goes - another day, another dollar, another square on the crochet blanket eh. Which I think possibly is using some of her own handspun? Not sure, memory is not a finite thing.

Kimberly: continuing the cabled blanket for her daughter, c-weamy like her c-wuffee!

Jussi: darn fine bubba pants and corn fritters. With bacon. Looked far better than my greek cake ... mumble, grumble ...

Don't get confused folks - this was a random Sunday. Next Sunday, 16th August, is the normal meet day.

Yah to all the people who turned up at Northern Steamship on Tuesday night for yarn, cocktails, beer and dessert - what a crowd!

Official Jasmine Waiver: minor attempts were made to remember or spell correctly real names, blog names, ravelry names, nick names, project names or food orders. 1000 apologies and a free chapati if anyone has not been duly recognised - feel free to leave a comment with a real link or two.

19.07.09

There was a fair amount of forgetfulness happening at Knit Rangers this fortnight - I forgot the magazine I was going to bring, Genny and Catherynne forgot their "hurt" books, and funniest of all, Edwina forgot the part of her jersey she was working on (luckily she had supplies to start the sleeve).

Edwina's knitting a Paton's pattern, a fuzzy sweater with eyelet lace at the cuff and collar. The yarn she's using is a Kid Mohair from Naturally yarns.

Edwina's Knitting

I'm not sure what Genny was knitting, but she did have a great pink scarf she'd woven to show off as well (and to encourage others to take up weaving, too)!

Genny's Knitting

I forgot to get my camera out in time to snap photo of Catherynne's and Margo's knitting. Margo was knitting a feather and fan border on to a blanket, and I'm sure whatever Catherynne was working on was a fabulous as her new bathroom. ;-)

Stella was diligently fixing some socks, knit in black Patonyle I think. Such patience!

Stella's Knitting

Helen looked lovely in her Coraline cardigan (knit in possum/merino from The Wool Company), while she was knitting Laredo, a mens vest pattern from the Twist Collective.

Helen's Knitting

Justine was knitting something secretive, I think, and Kristie is knitting a textured zipped cardigan/jacket for herself from a back issue of Vogue Knitting. Neither are this blurry in real life.

Justine & Kristie's Knitting

And me, well, beanies! I finished up number 6 while at the table - at least 17 to go to meet my goal. :-)

Beanies #1-6

There was lots of intersting conversation, too! Blogging was one topic of conversation - and we may have Kristie doing the next update here, if she wants to try her hand at it. :-)

The next meetup is Sunday 2 August (and the following Tuesday the 4th is next gathering at Northern Steamship). See you then!

Sarah is kindly knitting mittens for her elder sister
I was knitting on a baby sweater (surprise) and Micheline has started her first sock - but my camera was not co-operating.

what a rainy horrible day - nice to be inside with good friends and hot coffee, and we got meet Tracey and Craig's wee bundle of joy - isn't he beautiful! I felt clucky for the first time in years. Unfortunately we are losing this gorgeous family to the South Island - but I'm sure we will continue to hear of their exploits - and we all want to know if Craig got his much desired floor jack...

Regular Irregular Winos

Looking for something crafty and fun to do on an occassional  Tuesday night in downtown Auckland? For a while now, we Knit Rangers have been having an irregular winos session (so named for the it's random scheduling and location, and beverage consumption). While KIPing on World Wide Knit In Public Day, some of us decided to make it a more regular occurrence, and spread the word and love. So, if you want to come knit/crochet at the Northern Steamship (or at the very least, hang out with some knitters/crocheters), come along!

Auckland Central SnB (or regular irregular winos!!) will meet 1st Tues of each month at the Northern Steamship pub on the Quay from 5.30pm - 7.30pm.

Anyone is welcome (sticks, hooks or fingers!)

Hopefully Tues is an easy time for more people, the NSS is central and close to all public transport so everyone can knit, yarn, drink or eat.  And we've set a time so people don't feel kinky about going home to feed the family, put the cat to bed or watch good reality TV!

2009 Dates: July 7th, August 4th, September 1st, Oct 6th, November 3rd, Dec 1st

See you there!
